We are both huge fans of film and one of my favorite moments in television and movies is when the characters break the fourth wall.
"Breaking the fourth wall" is defined as when a character interacts directly with the audience thereby acknowledging the fictional nature of the performance. The "fourth wall" is the invisible barrier between the performers and audience. When a character speaks to the audience or camera, they effectively break this barrier thus drawing attention to the significance of the moment.
